Udta Punjab has managed a fairly good Week One at the Box Office. With 48.5 crore coming in, it has stepped into the safe zone and whatever comes here is going to be the bonus element. In fact, it has managed to score better collections in its first week when compared to Kapoor & Sons [46.93 crore] and Neerja [35.32 crore]. However, these two films had much longer run and went ahead of the 70 crore mark. That won’t be possible for Udta Punjab though, if the fall in collections during the weekdays is any indication.

Still, the job is done for the Abhishek Chaubey directed film and the bonus element has been the critical acclaim that it fetched as well, in addition to the commercial success. The film is on way to be a semi-hit success and for Shahid Kapoor, it is a good news indeed, especially after Shaandaar. Considering the fact the Ekta Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap film has been an offbeat affair (albeit with commercial stars), the numbers are in any case better than expectations.

Each of the stars featuring in the film has an exciting project ahead now. Shahid Kapoor would be seen in Rangoon early next year. Alia Bhatt’s next is with none other than Shahrukh Khan which is expected later this year. Kareena Kapoor Khan has just signed Veerey Di Wedding with Sonam Kapoor. On the other hand Diljit Dosanjh has a major release today in the form of Sardaarji 2. All in all, a happy situation for all actors at the end of one week run of Udta Punjab.

Note: All collections as per production and distributor sources
