Box Office – Sultan creates HISTORY, marches towards 300 crore mark

The mightiest of the trade predictions have fallen flat. Before the release, even in the best case scenario it had seemed that Sultan would score around 150 crore. Yes, a large section of trade was positive that this major milestone would be surpassed but the more practical being thrown around was around 140 crore. In fact no one (including myself) was even thinking of a number even a crore over the 160 crore mark. However, the unthinkable happened as the Salman Khan starrer maintained a run rate of over 30 crore on each of the five days.

 

This happened when Sunday turned out to be HUGE too with 39 crore* more coming in. While this is unbelievable in itself, what is truly mind boggling is the fact that the Yash Raj film has now touched a mighty 181.62 crore* already.

 

With this, in barely 5 days, the film has gone past the lifetime collections of biggies like:

 

Dabangg 2 – 156.5 crore

Tanu Weds Manu Returns – 152 crore

Bodyguard – 149 crore

Dilwale – 148 crore

Singham Returns – 140 crore

Dabangg – 140 crore

 

Now this also means that within two more days, Sultan would have crossed the 200 crore milestone. Also, this would be the first time ever when a Bollywood film would have achieved this feat in its first seven days. The film is all set to have the biggest extended Week One as well (in this case, it has nine days to enjoy) and one waits to see which are the other records waiting to be broken.
