Box Office – Great Grand Masti to take a decent start

After all the brouhaha around the film being leaked many days prior to its release, Great Grand Masti is now hitting the screens tomorrow. Of course, it has been a major disadvantage for the Indra Kumar film as a clean release would have helped it open much bigger than what it would now. As a matter of fact so much has been said and written about the piracy that the real content has somehow taken a backseat. Moreover, the film being advanced by a week also translates into the fact that the best of the marketing and promotional plans drawn for it may have been impacted too.

The advantage for the film though is that it is seeing a solo release at the Box Office. If it would have arrived on 22nd July (the original date), it would have seen a huge crowd around it since at last count, there are seven films at the least that are vying for screen space on that date. However, now that Great Grand Masti is the only film arriving, there is no such threat at the least.

Amongst actors, Riteish Deshmukh especially has been synonymous with comic outings and has enjoyed an almost cent percent strike rate when it comes to the genre. In fact the film has (rightly) not been promoted as an adult comedy per se, which means the sphere of target audience has widened beyond the ones who gave a dekko to the likes of Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 and Mastizaade. That should ensure that the film, with Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani as the other leading men, sees better footfalls.

Even if the film takes an opening of 30%-40%, it would be some sort of platform for it to consolidate over the weekend. Right now, it all boils down to the word of mouth that it manages after Friday so that Saturday and Sunday collections can help it cover a decent distance.
